O’Connor, Sherrie

O’Connor, Dawn Sherrie
April 5, 1956 - August 10, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dawn Sherrie O’Connor, fondly known as Sherrie, who left this world peacefully after a courageous battle with meningiomas on August 10, 2025. Born on April 5, 1956, in Streetsville, Ontario, Sherrie later moved to Peterborough, where she grew up and built many cherished memories.

Sherrie is survived by her devoted partner, Dr. Bob Yantho, his family, and her brother Shaun and sister-in-law Carol. She will also be deeply missed by her dearest friends Rhonda, Tanya, and Skye, who stood by her with love and laughter through the years. Sherrie was predeceased by her parents, Frances and Karl, whom she always carried close in her heart.

A woman of grace and joy, Sherrie was a lifelong learner with a deep love of language, literature, and the arts. She delighted in exploring new cuisines and fine wines, and her home was often filled with the sound of classical music, especially when she was at the piano. Sherrie had a profound love for animals, particularly dogs and horses, and she found freedom and happiness in horseback riding—often wearing her pearls, a reflection of her unique blend of elegance and spirit. She shared her days with many cherished animal companions, especially her beloved dogs, and also held a special lifelong affection for foxes—whether real, as stuffed animals, or woven into décor—collecting them with delight and surrounding herself with their charm.

Known for her positivity, humor, and warmth, Sherrie balanced her appreciation for beauty and knowledge with a playful sense of silliness and the occasional mischievous joke. Her lighthearted spirit and joyful presence touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Sherrie and Bob shared a partnership built on deep love, respect, and unwavering care. Bob’s steadfast devotion, gentle presence, and tireless support were a constant source of comfort and strength to Sherrie, especially during her illness. Their bond was a true reflection of loyalty and tenderness, and his love brought her peace throughout her journey.

Even in the face of illness, Sherrie’s faith in God and Jesus remained unwavering. She fought courageously, inspiring all with her strength, grace, and ever-present smile. Her family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all who called, visited, and prayed for her throughout her journey. Deep appreciation is also extended to the staff of Parkwood Mennonite Home, whose kindness and compassion did not go unnoticed. In her final year, Sherrie was cared for by Sara, who felt humbled and grateful for the privilege of caring for her and who will always hold dear the bond they created.

Sherrie is now dancing and laughing with her Creator, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and light, and the memory of a laugh that will echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
