MacDonald, Roderick Charles Marcellus
November 6, 1954 - May 17, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roderick MacDonald on Saturday May 17th, 2025 at Joseph Brant Hospital Burlington, in his 71st year. Rod bravely faced a cancer diagnosis with strength and courage.

Born in Toronto November 6th, 1954 to Eugene MacDonald (deceased) and Helen MacDonald (deceased). Lovingly remembered by his wife Diane Mitchell. Was fondly thought of by Robert Mitchell (deceased). Beloved brother of Shirley Ann (deceased), Roy (Colette) and Richard (Valerie) MacDonald. Beloved brother-in-law to Lynn, Jim, Lori and Gord Mitchell. Uncle to Riley, Callum, Evan MacDonald and Sebastien Freeman (Grace). Great uncle to Hunter Freeman. Proud Poppa to Fitz, Angus and Mo. He will be forever remembered and forever missed.

Rod had a strong work ethic and an admirable career with the Canada Post Corporation which spanned over 37 years. After retirement he was happily employed for 12 years at the Burlington Public Library.

Rod possessed the unique ability to express himself through art, whether it be through drawing, writing or storytelling which culminated in a blog for the Burlington Public Library called ‘Dave the Library Cat’. Rod was also an avid reader, a film aficionado and a superhero enthusiast.

A great friend to many, Rod was known for his kindness, caring and subtle dry wit.

Respecting Rod’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life to honour Rod will be held on a later date for family and friends.

Donations in Rod’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Burlington Humane Society.
