Howard, Edgar Alvin ("Eddie")
July 10, 1950 - September 23, 2026It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of Edgar "Eddie" Alvin Howard, surrounded by his family on September 23, 2026, at the age of 76.
Eddie leaves behind his beloved wife and longtime partner, Joyce; his son, Mark Howard and wife Robyn; his daughter, Tara Iwanchuk and her husband, Art; as well as his stepdaughter, Sarah-Jean.
He was a proud grandfather to Michaela and husband, Brett; Stephanie and husband, Alonso; Ryder; Phoenix; Eden; Love; and Leona, all of whom brought him tremendous joy. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Liam, Jacob, and Alice.
Eddie is survived by his brothers, Joe Howard and wife, Linda, Frank Howard and wife, Pam, and sister, Kathleen and her partner, Chuck. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Claire Howard, and by his beloved grandson, Aaron Iwanchuk.
Born and raised in Hamilton's North End, Eddie was proud of his roots and remained a true North Ender throughout his life. He dedicated 37 years of service to Stelco, where he made countless friends, shared more than a few laughs, and never missed an opportunity to offer his opinion, whether anyone asked for it or not.
Eddie enjoyed golfing, cheering on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and faithfully following the Toronto Blue Jays. While he often joked that both teams had disappointed him over the years, his loyalty never wavered. Win or lose, he stayed true to his teams.
Eddie loved music and was rarely shy about sharing his singing talents. He often believed he was one good song away from replacing Elvis Presley or Frank Sinatra. His family may have questioned his chances of stardom, but they will always cherish the laughter, smiles, and memories that came with his performances.
He also had a special love for animals. His cat, Clancy, and dog, Zeebi, were treasured companions, and anyone who knew Eddie knew he had a soft spot for them.
Above all else, Eddie loved his family. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, sharing stories, laughs, and making memories together.
Known for his quick wit, sense of humour, and easy-going personality (except when he was losing at a game of cards), Eddie had a way of making people feel welcome. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A heartfelt and sincere thank you to the entire team in the Hamilton General Hospital Neurological ICU. Your dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts in caring for Eddie were truly incredible.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
As Eddie most recently said:
"The true purpose of life is Peace, Tranquility and Love."
Those words capture the way he chose to live and the legacy he leaves behind. His family takes comfort in knowing that his memory will live on through the many lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave.
