Myers, Wayne

Myers, Wayne
October 14, 1966 - May 7, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Myers, who passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 7th at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton at the young age of 59.

He is dearly missed by his loving wife, Lynne, and his two sons, Andrew (Lauren), Matthew, and his sister, Jacqueline, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Wayne also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Nyla, who brought him great company and companionship.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Wayne spent some of his childhood in Jamaica and all of his adult life in Canada, particularly in Oakville, Burlington and then Waterdown. Growing up, Wayne made friends easily no matter where he went. He was genuine and had a special quality that drew others to him. Wayne also had a passion for sports, and he never missed a chance to watch soccer, baseball, hockey, tennis or golf. He loved cooking and trying out new dishes, making his popular pepper jelly, hosting a barbecue, and even tinkering with cars. He also loved to work outside in the garden to ensure that his grass was the best on the block. Sometimes you might find him in the neighbor’s garage sharing a beer or two. Above all else, Wayne treasured time spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, cousin and friend to so many. Although he had a busy work schedule, he always found time to spend time with his two sons, participate in their extra-curricular activities, share a laugh, and create beautiful memories.

Wayne dedicated over 35 years of service at G.N. Johnston Equipment as a service technician and then as a manager of road service. He made a big impact with his peers and was known as a great mechanic, mentor/leader and was highly regarded by many people who had the privilege to work with him. Although he could be tough, he was an exceptional and caring man and a good friend to so many.

Over the past two years, Wayne showed immense strength and resilience, inspiring everyone who had the privilege of walking beside him in his fight against cancer. His perseverance through scans, surgeries, treatments and sleepless nights will never be forgotten. He was tough and never wanted to give up in his fight. The family is extremely grateful to everyone who had generously donated towards Wayne’s fight against cancer with CTOAM. He fought hard with determination and strength and we are so thankful he had the opportunity to fight harder.

The family would also like to thank the nurses and doctors of Juravinski Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Wayne for over the past two years. They supported not only Wayne, but our entire family through the most difficult time in our lives.

As per Wayne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will follow at a later date. His wish was to have everyone come together to celebrate his life and all that he had achieved and for which we are all so proud. As Wayne would always say since being diagnosed, “It’s never a goodbye, but see you later.”
