February 28, 1952 - August 25, 2026Wayne Johnson was an exemplary human, husband, and father. Born February 28, 1952, in Halifax, NS, he lived in Kentville until he joined the RCMP at age 20. After moving to Windsor, ON, in 1975, Wayne met Denise; it was love at first sight, and they married a year later.
Wayne was a Sergeant in the RCMP for 38 years and loved his work. He received many commendations, including the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, awarded to Canadians who made outstanding contributions to their communities. He was a strategic thinker at work and in life, and a good listener and mentor. He loved puzzles and was a master of logic and wordplay—he was very funny in a clever, quiet way. If there was a problem, Wayne could solve it, whether it was helping with homework or learning how to remodel a basement.
Wayne was a leader and would step up whenever needed. He was Akela, Coach, and Condo-Board President. He was an enthusiastic volleyball player and participated in many RCMP tournaments. He would drop everything to help you move a couch or drive you home at 3 am. He was a strong, reflective, gentle man who loved travelling, being outdoors, and getting an ice cream while walking along the water. Most of all, he loved to read and was never far from a book. He devoured fiction, nonfiction, mysteries, and true crime. He was a wonderful father who loved his family, and we loved and appreciated him, too.
Wayne passed peacefully at home on August 25. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Denise, son Eric, daughter Lauren (Eric Wood), nephew Adrian, nieces Andrea and Lindsay, cousins Janet and Marilyn, and his extended Johnson and Ducharme family. He is predeceased by his father James, mother Marion, and brother Philip. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Hamilton General Hospital, St. Joseph’s home care team, and St. Elizabeth’s PSWs. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakeview by Carmen’s, 1–4 pm, September 18. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada are welcomed.
