Patterson, Gerard

Patterson, Gerard
October 31, 1957 - July 31, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Gerard Patterson, who passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gerard will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his sisters, Rose (Bruce) Cole and Patricia (David) Partridge, and his brother, Robert (Sandy). He will also be remembered by his daughter, Lea (Connor) McCann, and his two grandchildren, Killyan and Saoirse.

Gerard was predeceased by his parents, Yvonne and Charles, and his brother, Lawrence.

He is fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, who will carry his memory forward with love and affection. He will be missed by his two remaining aunts and his many cousins, all of whom remember him for his larger-than-life personality.

Gerard .  will also be remembered for his kindness, sense of humour, and deep love for his family, which was the most important thing to him.  His happy nature and devotion to family kept him deeply involved in our Leruscan family group.  Gerard was always first in line to lend a hand or his truck for those that needed it. if nothing was needed, he was always happy to grab a coffee and sit down for a chat. He could always find something to talk about, especially his beloved Philadelphia Flyers, and he never missed an opportunity to tease the “Leafs fans” around him. With the amount of time he spent following and complaining about the Leafs, it sometimes made you wonder if he wasn’t secretly a Leafs fan himself.  He brought warmth and laughter to those around him, and many will fondly remember him as “Santa Claus,” a role he embraced with joy and generosity, bringing happiness to both children and adults alike.

Gerard’s generosity did not end with his passing. Through his decision to be an organ donor, he has given someone the precious gift of sight. Knowing that a part of Gerard will live on by helping another person see is a beautiful final gift from a man who was always willing to lend a hand and bring happiness to others.

Gerard is now at peace and free from pain. While his passing leaves a profound sadness, his family and friends take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering.

Rest peacefully, dear brother. You are now in the hands of our dear Lord.

Funeral mass will be held Friday September 18th, 2026  at 11:00 am St. Mary’s of the Visitation  Church, 16 Cooper St. Cambridge N3C 2N2
