Tobin, Thomas

Tobin, Thomas (Tom)
June 26, 1974 - March 20, 2026

Tom Tobin passed away peacefully after an illness at the age of 51 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on March 20. A lover and creator of music, art, film, and photography, he was a kind and intelligent soul. Survived by siblings Phil Tobin (Michelle), Jeff Cloes, Gary Cloes, and Laura Sherret (Chad), and a large number of loyal friends. Tom was a loving and fun Uncle to Jolene, Michael, Ben, Rachel, and Amanda. Predeceased by Roger and Bonnie Tobin, whom he cared for with much compassion in their later years.

Tom graduated from Photography at Fanshawe College and Film at Sheridan College. He worked in post-production on TV series including Queer As Folk, Iron Chef Canada, and MasterChef Canada, and on films such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding. His own short film, Sugar, was shot in St. Thomas. He most recently lived in Hamilton, and for many years in Toronto.

In his spare time, Tom enjoyed camping with friends, attending concerts, catching a live football game, seeing great films, attending exhibitions by his favourite artists, jamming with musician friends, and sharing travel adventures. Tom was a storyteller and added life to any event, and above all, liked to have fun. He enjoyed the simple (but good) things in life: close family, time with friends, a medium-rare steak, interesting conversation, and a quality bourbon. Tom was a true creative, appreciating the best in photography, film, music, and visual arts. We’ll miss his frequent movie recommendations.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In Tom’s honour, purchase something from a local artist, or see a great film (preferably on the big screen).
