October 10, 1943 – November 29, 2025We are saddened to announce the passing of Shirley Ann Samchuk, 82, of Brantford, Ontario, on November 29, 2025, at Brantford General Hospital. At her request, no memorial service will be held.
Shirley (aka Sam, Sammy) was born October 10, 1943, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The family later moved to Brantford, where she had a successful hairdressing career creating fabulous hairdos for her many loyal clients.
Fiercely independent in the gentlest of ways, Shirley lived by her own standards and beliefs. She always strived to present her best self to the world with impeccable taste and manners. She loved good food and good books, spending much of her free time reading. Shopping was probably her favourite hobby - perhaps she simply couldn’t go on without the Bay!
Shirley was a fabulous single mother who instilled compassion and charity in her daughter, always reminding Leslie to ‘be the better person’ whenever she was frustrated with others - a cherished lesson.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents William Leslie Samchuk and Hellen Betty Samchuk (Danielson). She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Leslie Ellen Samchuk and Leslie's partner, Paul St-Pierre. She will be missed by her lifelong friends Mary, Gloria, Susan, John, Phylis, and Ross, and her stellar neighbour Lynda.
A cat lover, Shirley found a familiar in Grumpy Cat of internet fame – NOPE. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Brantford Cat Rescue, or to your local cat rescue organization.
