Burns, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Burns (née Smyth), of Hamilton, Ontario, born October 13, 1949, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed by her husband, Jim Burns; her daughter Darragh Mravinac (Mark), and grandsons Cameron and Chase; her stepdaughter Crystal Burns (Andrew), and granddaughters Nicole and Silvaira.
Also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Laura Corbett, Margaret O’Connor, Rob Smyth, and Karen Smyth. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Rita Smyth, and her two brothers, Peter and Martin Smyth.
Born October 13, 1949, in Dublin, Ireland, Elizabeth immigrated to Canada in 1969 and later settled in Hamilton where she married her husband Jim and raised her family.
To know Elizabeth was to love her. She was warm and funny and absolutely the best at a party. She loved to sing. She loved her rose garden. She loved to cook for family and friends. She held strong convictions and stood up for what she believed in.
She had a long and meaningful working life, making plenty of friends along the way. She enjoyed going to the opera, trips to New York, family getaways at the beach, and visits home to her beloved Ireland.
Elizabeth’s family was the cornerstone of her life. She was a loving wife to Jim, and a wonderful mother to her daughter, Darragh and her step daughter Crystal. Spending time with her grandchildren, Cameron, Chase, Nicole, and Silvaira was her greatest joy. She spoke of them fondly and endlessly and shared their photos with pride.
Elizabeth was an amazing person with a kind heart a lively spirit. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
