Music was one of Ric's great passions, and for many years he was a familiar voice in Hamilton's music community. He wrote the long-running Hamilton Music Notes column for VIEW Magazine and hosted Lullabies in Razorland on McMaster University's CFMU 93.3 FM, championing local musicians and sharing their work with the community. His contributions were recognized by the Hamilton Music Awards, where he was named Media Person of the Year in 2013 and again in 2016, while Lullabies in Razorland was named Radio Show of the Year in 2015.
