Bosch, Martin
November 11, 1946 – November 16, 2025

Martin Henry Bosch died peacefully surrounded by family as a result of complications from a tragic fall. Born in the Netherlands, he grew up on a farm in Iona, Ontario.

Martin was Nancy Sullivan’s best friend and husband.  He leaves to mourn his children, Fraser (Katherine), Graham and Trevor (Lindsay) and his beloved grandchildren, Evan and Liam.  He was predeceased by his daughter, Allison (1988) and by his brother Arie (1959).  He leaves also his sisters, Anne, Hennie (Gerrit), Joanne (Leo) and Tina (John d 2023); his brothers Tony (Judy), Peter (Andree)and Hank and his many nieces and nephews.  He leaves also his first wife and mother of his children, Linda Bosch.

The Sullivan family took Martin into their hearts and will miss him.  Martin built a home in Georgeville, Quebec where he enjoyed the magnificent view and  his  many volunteer activities in the community.

Martin was a proud alumnus of the University of Guelph. A three-time graduate, he completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry (2004), 33 years after earning his MSc.  He studied for the pure joy of learning. He was proud of creating the Historical Walking Tour of the University of Guelph. Starting in 2001, he worked tirelessly researching the history of the individuals after whom the buildings were named and securing funding to place plaques on historical buildings on campus. In 2006 he was awarded the Alumni Volunteer Award.

Martin was a generous donor to the University, funding the Rozanski Hall clock, and, most recently,  the Martin Henry Bosch Doctoral Scholarships in Organic Chemistry

Martin was a successful entrepreneur and innovative businessman as the owner of the Guelph Soap Company.  He balanced his PhD studies with running the corporation.

A history buff, Martin amassed the largest Canadian collection of soap industry advertising and artifacts. The Martin Bosch Soap Collection is housed in the Canadian Museum of History.

Martin helped many charitable organizations as a philanthropist without seeking the limelight.

Martin had a gift for connecting with people and this continued throughout his hospitalizations.  A special thank you to the compassionate and caring staff at St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre in Guelph.

Cremation has taken place. At Martin’s request, there will be no service.

To remember Martin, as he would wish, share a beer or a glass of wine with your best friend and remember the good times you had with him.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis would be appreciated.
