Kulchecki, Layne

Kulchecki, Layne
February 23, 1964 – September 13, 2025

Layne Kulchecki passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Innisfree House on September 13, 2025, at the age of 61, after many months of treatment for cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 36 years, Alison; his beloved daughter, Heather Taylor (Seth); grandchildren Salem and Lark; his mother, Carol; brothers Gregg and Glen (Pam); and sister Deanne Gillies (Stephen). Layne was predeceased by his father, Edward, earlier this year. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Layne touched the lives of many with his quick wit, warmth, compassion, and brilliance in the many areas he pursued. He was a passionate astronomer, self-taught engineer, and highly skilled tradesperson. As an inventor and educator, he contributed to the field of solar technology and hoped to leave Earth better than he found it.

Friends and colleagues will also remember Layne for his expertise in firearms and shooting sports, as well as his lifelong love of music, especially his saxophone playing in high school. Above all, Layne was dedicated to his family, always cherishing gatherings and cottage weekends on Lake Huron through the years.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Innisfree House for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Starling Child and Family Foundation or Innisfree House would be greatly appreciated. As per Layne’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and his family will honour his memory with a private gathering.

In lieu of direct condolences to his mother Carol, the family kindly requests that expressions of sympathy be directed elsewhere, as her advanced dementia makes it difficult for her to process such loss, often causing her to relive the pain repeatedly.
