Davies, Gerald

Davies, Gerald (Gerry) Donald
November 19, 1948 – October 20, 2026

A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal friend, successful businessman, and a man whose larger-than-life personality and sense of humour stayed with him until the very end.

Gerry Davies, 77, passed away on October 20, 2026, following an 18-month battle with brain cancer, which he faced courageously and without complaint.

For 50 wonderful years, Gerry shared his life with his beloved wife, Ilda. Together, they built a family and a lifetime of memories. He was a proud father to Joe (Sally), Eva (Domenic), Jay (Jill), and Matthew, and an especially devoted grandfather to Grace, Leo, Isla, Lily, and Emilia, who brought him immeasurable joy.

Family was at the heart of everything he did. Whether gathered around the table for a roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding and an endless glass of Diet Pepsi, spending time with his grandchildren, or cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs (who, unfortunately, had a remarkable talent for disappointing him), he knew how to enjoy the things that mattered most.

Gerry was funny, generous, loyal, hardworking, and blessed with a personality that could fill a room. His sense of humour was legendary, his language could make a sailor blush, and he loved to tease and joke with those around. He had a way of keeping people laughing, and even during the most difficult days of his illness, that humour never left him. It was an unmistakable part of who he was.

His life was anything but ordinary. He served as a Peel Regional Police officer, became a successful business owner, and spent over 40 years working as a private investigator. He was also drafted into the NHL by the Pittsburgh Penguins — a remarkable chapter in a life full of interesting experiences. A world traveller and animal lover, he held a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Katie.

His Catholic faith became an important part of his life over the past 20 years. After completing the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), Gerry embraced the faith and became a devoted Catholic. He was also proud to achieve the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, reflecting his commitment to his faith and the values he held dear.

Gerry will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Ross (Mary-Adele), Kathy (Jamie),  sisters and brother-in-law Connie (Sal), Eunice and his many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Hazel and George Davies, in-laws, Carmelina and Emilio Cozzolino, and sister-in-law Aileen Davies.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ronald Ramos, his oncologist; Andrea Miller, nurse practitioner at Juravinski Hospital; and the staff on the third floor of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Their care, compassion, and support throughout his illness meant a great deal to Gerry and his family.

A Funeral Mass will be held on October 30th at 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 Livingston Avenue, Grimsby, Ontario. A Celebration of Life will follow on November 21st in Milton, Ontario, providing family and friends another opportunity to gather, share stories, remember the laughter, and celebrate a remarkable life.

Though Gerry will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the family he cherished, the friendships he built, the stories that will be told for years to come, and the laughter he leaves behind.
