Smith, David Wallace
May 3, 1946 - July 19, 2026

With great sadness, the family announces the passing of David Smith on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 1:09 p.m. David passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in the ICU at Guelph General Hospital, with his loving wife by his side.

David was a deeply devoted family man who loved his family unconditionally and was immensely proud of his children and grandson. He was always there for them whenever they needed him. Even throughout his illness, his primary focus and worry were always the well-being and security of his loved ones.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Smith; his son, Daniel (Mae); his daughter, Rebekah (Mike); and his cherished only grandson, Byron Spurway, whom he truly adored, and the 2 dogs Mike and Jeff. He is also survived by his sisters, Lynda (Rick), Sandy (Tony), and Deana (Leo). He was predeceased by his parents, Vera Smith and Richard (Ginny) Smith; his brother, Dale (Buddy); and his favorite dog, Benny.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, David moved with his family at the age of 6 to the Isle of Man, England, where his mother was from. Following the tragic loss of his mother when he was just 13, David showed immense resilience, living independently from the age of 15 until he returned to Canada at age 18 to rejoin his father.

In his youth, David was a passionate soccer player and served as a goalie. After working various construction jobs, he found his true career path at age 24 when he joined the laundry services department at Milton Hospital. Over his successful career, his expertise grew to the point where he helped design commercial laundries for both the government and the local Bethel.

David was a man of many talents and a lifelong learner. He possessed a great passion for photography and took immense joy in meticulously restoring old photographs. Alongside his photography, David was a self-taught computer enthusiast who built his own computers and wrote software programs that were adopted and utilized by many institutions.

David’s warmth, strength, and dedication will be deeply missed by all of his family and the many people who had the privilege of knowing him.
