Doughty, Cedric
Doughty, Cedric Richard
July 11, 1950 - May 2, 2025It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cedric Richard Doughty on May 2, 2025, at the age of 74. Cedric passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on July 11, 1950, at the family home on 14 Oakwood Rd in Blurton, Stoke on Trent, England. Cedric was one of 13 siblings, born at that address. His lively and close-knit upbringing fostered a deep love for family, laughter, and togetherness that remained with him throughout his life.
Cedric immigrated to Canada in 1971, where he built a life rooted in hard work, devotion, and faith in his God, Jehovah. He had previously worked as a machinist for the Michelin tire company in England and held a similar job as a machinist in Toronto, he later drove a transport truck. Wanting to stay closer to home, he joined Abex in Lindsay, Ontario, where he manufactured brake shoes—and on the side, cleaned phone booths across the area. Cedric eventually settled in Kitchener, where he founded Doughty Janitorial—a business through which he provided employment to many, holding commercial cleaning contracts with Zehrs. In every role, Cedric approached his work with dedication and pride, always putting his family and friends first.
He deeply treasured time with his family—whether at cherished gatherings, summer barbecues, or carefree days at the beach. His love was ever-present on family trips to Canada’s Wonderland or Disney, and he especially enjoyed his sunny getaways with close friends.
Cedric loved to cook and passed that passion on to his children. He was often found in the kitchen, especially on Sundays—his favorite day—where he would prepare his famous English breakfast, always served with a “spot of tea!”.He also never passed up the chance to sit with his boys, to cheer on the Toronto Maple Leafs, Cedric's warmth, faith, and love will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Cheryl Doughty, and his children: Lisa Joy Kelly (late husband Lee), Melinda Helen Doughty (Dale), and Paul Richard Doughty (Keran). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren—Amber, Ethan, and Liam—and his treasured great-grandchildren, Hudson and Arira. Cedric was predeceased by his son, Matthew John Doughty.
He is also remembered lovingly by many siblings in England, as well as extended family and friends whose lives he touched.
A funeral service to honor Cedric’s life will be held on Saturday May 10, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 71 Rothsay Avenue, Kitchener, ON N2B 3N4.
Cedric’s legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and love. He will be dearly missed and remembered with deep affection by all who knew him.
