August 8, 1941 - July 26, 2026It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Kulchecki (née Straus) on July 26, 2026 at Innisfree House with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. Carol was born in Kitchener, Ontario, on August 8, 1941, and lived a life defined by kindness, creativity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved.
Carol was the beloved wife of Edward Kulchecki, her soulmate and constant companion, who predeceased her in March of 2025. Together they built a life rich in love, laughter, family traditions, and countless cherished memories. They truly were “attached at the hip,” and it brings comfort to imagine them reunited once more.
She was the loving mother of the late Layne, who predeceased her in September of 2025 (Alison), Gregg, Glen (Pam), and Deanne (Stephen). She was an incredibly proud grandmother to Heather (Seth) and adored great-grandmother to Salem and Lark, who brought her immeasurable joy in her final years.
She was predeceased by her sisters Gloria and Sharon and leaves behind her brothers Neil (Leslie) and Merle and many nieces and nephews.
Her first job began at the young age of only 16 at Ball Brothers Construction, where she was single-handedly responsible for managing the company payroll, a job she proudly remembered. She later dedicated herself to raising her children until they were all in school. It was then that she began volunteering with seniors, a role that soon turned into a lifelong career.
For over 28 years, Carol served as the Program Director of the KW Seniors Day Program, where she devoted herself to enriching the lives of seniors and older adults and supporting their families. Her warmth, compassion, and ability to make everyone feel valued earned her love and admiration in the community.
Those who knew Carol will remember her as warm, endlessly generous, and blessed with a wonderfully sharp sense of humour inherited from her mother, Reta. She was fiercely loyal to her family and always ready to offer encouragement, support, or a helping hand. She gave freely of herself and found her greatest happiness in caring for those she loved.
Some of the family’s most treasured memories were made at the beloved cottage on the shores of Lake Huron. Summers were filled with music and stories around the fire pit, laughter around crowded supper tables, and quiet afternoons spent snuggled together on the hammock. Carol had a remarkable gift for creating traditions that made every holiday, birthday, and family gathering feel magical, filling her home with warmth, comfort, and the unmistakable feeling of belonging.
A gifted artisan in every sense of the word, Carol was able to master every creative pursuit she embraced. Whether knitting intricate blankets, crocheting heirloom gifts, hand sewing beautiful quilts, crafting Halloween costumes for her children, painting ceramics, or countless other projects, she poured love into everything she made.
Music was an important part of Carol’s life. She had a beautiful singing voice and a song for nearly every occasion, often breaking into spontaneous melody without a second thought. She passed countless songs from her own childhood and adulthood on to her children, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren, ensuring they would live on for generations. Even as she faced the challenges of advanced dementia, her lifelong love of music endured. Music remained a source of comfort and calm, often bringing a smile to her face as she sang along to familiar songs. In those moments, it provided peace, connection, and a sense of joy.
Carol’s family finds comfort in imagining her reunited with Eddie, sitting side by side on a porch swing, she singing along to the music with him keeping time, drumming on his knees with his handmade drumsticks.
Carol leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, creativity, music, and family traditions that will continue to shape the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for her close family and friends to honour Carol, along with her beloved husband, Edward, and her son, Layne.
