Nogami, Yuki
October 22, 1929 - May 17, 2026Yuki Nogami passed away on May 17, 2026 at the age of 96.
Yuki was born in Hamada, Shimane, Japan. He is survived by his beloved wife Sumiko, three sons Jun, Ken and Ray, three daughters in law Midori, Ayumi and Noriko, and five grandchildren: Mika, Keili, Ena, Mano and Taiki.
Yuki was a theoretical physicist. He had BSc and DSc degrees from Kyoto University. His main research areas were nuclear and particle physics. In 1961 Yuki came to Canada from Japan to work as a research fellow at the National Research Council of Canada, Ottawa, for two years. After Ottawa he went to London, England and worked for a year. In 1964 he came back to Canada and happily accepted an offer from the Physics Department at McMaster University. He was a popular teacher. He supervised and worked with many graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. He had collaborators in Brazil, England, France, Germany, Hungary, India and Japan. One of his most cited papers resulted in a method that subsequently was referred to as “the Lipkin-Nogami method”. He retired from McMaster University in 1995 as Professor Emeritus. After retirement he continued to publish research as recently as 2013. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Hamilton Satellite Health Facility for their kindness.
