McCrae, Russell (Russ) Richardson
February 21, 1965 - October 4, 2026It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Russ McCrae on October 4, 2026, in Burlington, Ontario, at 61 years young.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of 33 years, and his wonderful children, daughter Kate and son Johnathan.
He will be lovingly missed by his parents Thomas and Barbara McCrae, sister Tammy (Peter) Neumayer and nieces Rachael and Grace. He will be deeply missed by his in- laws, David and Janet Brown, and brother-in-law Josh (Sheree).
Russ was born in Kirkland Lake, in Northern Ontario, on February 21, 1965. He grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, eventually moving to Burlington, Ontario, where he and Ruth raised their family.
Russ has deep connections to his community. He worked with Halton Region Public Works, Permits and Inspections Team since 2007, and will be deeply missed by his colleagues and residents he worked with. Russ frequently worked out of his truck, known to his family as his ‘mobile office’. He took great pride in serving his community.
Russ was part of the coaching team with The Burlington Eagles hockey organization for many years. He was a patient and kind mentor and role model for many young athletes. His passion for the game and positive influence will be remembered by the hundreds of players and families who had the pleasure of knowing Russ.
When Russ wasn’t working or coaching, he could be found tending to his vegetable garden, spending time outdoors fishing or hunting, or taking the family dogs for a walk. Russ will be missed by the animals in his life, including Moose, Harley, Mama Tofu, Lucy, Marvel, and Ella.
Russ was an extraordinary cook and master of the barbecue. Whether he was experimenting with his own custom spice blends or mastering a recipe from a favourite cooking video, he loved nothing more than bringing his family together around the kitchen table.
Russ loved his summer vacations spent in Larder Lake playing ‘pay me’ with friends, and relaxing with family at Lake Rosseau.
Russ had a special connection to Scotland and his extended Scottish family, and recently took a trip there with his mom, dad, and sister. He loved exploring Scotland’s breathtaking scenery and historical landmarks. Among his favourite adventures were visiting Eilean Donan Castle and touring local Scotch distilleries.
Visitation will take place at the Scottish Rite Hamilton, 4 Queen St. S, Hamilton, Ontario, on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Cremation has taken place.
